We are ending the year of 2021 in a festive mood with cheerful experiences and successful performances. Afer the prosperous opening night of Concerto the company started the Nutcracker-season in the Small Theatre of Szeged on the 3rd of December. The dance play for children recieves a warm welcome each time it is performed at guest venues, which this year are: Százhalombatta, Erzsébetliget Theatre Budapest and the National Dance Theatre Budapest.

Due to the recently signed partner agreement between the company and PICK Szeged Handball Club we had the opportunity to dazzle the audience of 8300 people at the opening gala of the brand new PICK Arena on the 9th of December. Making the event truly festive the ribbon cutting ceremony of the monumental sport establishment was attended by local governors and government officers too. The PICK Arena gala night directed by Tamás Juronics was a salute to the culture of the city as well as to the sport itself. Szeged Contemporary Dance Company performed pieces of the choreographies of Blue and Carmina Burana. Carl Orff’s piece was played by the Szeged Symphony Orchestra (lead by Sándor Gyüdi) alongside with opera singer Helga Nánási and the Viktor Vaszy Choir, afterwards opera singer Roland Tötös sang one of Puccini’s famous arias. The hosts of the event – actor Gábor Hevér and sport journalist Róbert Süli – lead a special award ceremony after which PICK Szeged Handball Team welcomed and defeated the german THW Kiel Team at the first official game held in the Arena.

Speaking of December and a dance play for children no matter the busy schedule we always make time for charity programmes. As another stand of the recent PICK Szeged Handball Team relationship the company joined them and the MTK Budapest Football Team in their proposal called „Blue-white chocolate collecting” having a whip-round of sweets for children in state custody. This year the granted sweets collected during the performances of The Nutcracker and the games were sent to the „Szent Ágota Child Protection Provider” and the „ÁGOTA Foundation” by MTK Budapest.

We recieved another invitation from the „Kids in Foster Home Organization” who make a home for underpriviliged children. First we invited them to the gala night of „For Szeged Foundation” where they attended our dance play Concerto. According to organizer Árpád Tóth it was an unforgettable experience for the kids who afterwards watched The Nutcracker in December from where they returned home with the company’s Christmas presents.

2017-2018’s „super production” the Dream Traveller resuscitates as a theatre play. The family tale-musical’s producer is Gabriella Illés and Tamás Juronics and it aligns the most popular actors and singers of Hungary. This Christmas the plays are held in RAM Theatre and the original star-cast – Győző Szabó, Judit Schell, Ildikó Keresztes, Mariann Falusi, Anita Ábel, Viktor Varga, Steve Hajdu and others – will be accompanied by some new performers such as Kati Wolf and Szilvia Péter Szabó.
