Szeged Contemporary Dance Company is planning two premieres for the upcoming season as well.

FALL 2023.

Soul of Fire
dance suite in five movements

„Petőfi being Petőfi is his destiny…, that he was not a mature, serious man but a stroppy child… But there is no better and more divine product of this deservedly criticizable Creation than a child. A child is the vividness, joy, the future’s pomise, the unchained man, the truly sincere god.” (Endre Ady: Petőfi does not bargain)

Szeged Contemporary Dance Company commemorates this unshakable and „godly” entity when - approaching the end of the Year of Petőfi - they perform Sould of Fire dance play for which local and international master courses’, cocncert halls’ and composition contests’ awarded, outstanding young composers Ádám Brandenburg, Dániel Dobri, Dániel Dániel, Viktor Molnár and Petra Szászi provide the music inspired by five freely chosen Petőfi poems. On this night the poems, the musical pieces revived by the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, the young choreographers’ work and Szeged Contemporary Dance Company’s usual stunning poetic scenes co-creates the synthesis that invigorates our timeless poet’s brilliance.

Choreographers: Gergely Czár, Róbert Kiss, Krisztina Szöllősi, Laura Tóth
Composers: Ádám Brandenburg, Dániel Dobri, Dániel Lázár, Viktor Molnár and Petra Szászi
Conductor: Sándor Gyüdi

SPRING 2024.
local and international premiere:

Black Swan
dance play for Tchaikovsky’s piece

„I have wanted to try this genre for a long time” – said Tchaikovsky to Rimsky-Korsakov while composing Swan Lake just as an explanation as it was unusual back than for a „serious” composer to create a ballet piece. However the old russian tale he had chosen as a topic turned out to be perfectly suited to present real emotions and passion, to show hope in human purity, goodwill and courage while, through the image of the wriggling swan girls in captivity, he was able to phrase the era’s dominating morale: gloom. This late feeling was not unfamiliar to him either. His life was full of fear fueled secretievness as he struggeled with depression over and over at death’s door. He created the ethereal White and the passionate Black swans’ characters as self healing or therapy, a projection of his neurotic soul. These are specific Russian melodies: they are heartfelt, painful at times and „heart-rending as a scream in the middle of a dark night” (Eduart Hanslick, viennese music-critic). This division is expressed by the figures of Odette and Odile which roles are usually assigned to the same dancer. Or in our case, to many at once…
